Milburn CC is an 18-hole, private facility located in Overland Park, Kansas. Milburn CC was founded in 1917 and has hosted numerous top amateur golf events including the Kansas Amateur, Missouri Amateur, Heart of America Four-Ball, The Watson Challenge, and numerous USGA regional and sectional qualifiers. Milburn is currently the #7 ranked golf course in the state of Kansas by Golf Digest. Milburn has a new clubhouse that opened in 2013; a new HDPE, Rainbird IC irrigation system installed in 2016; and recently renovated tees and sand bunkers.
Milburn has Meyer Zoysiagrass tees and fairways, Penn A1/A4 greens, and fescue/bluegrass roughs.
Educational Requirements: 2 or 4 year degree in Turf Management or equivalent field preferred.
Minimum 2-3 years of progressive experience in golf course maintenance, including 1-2 years minimum as an Assistant Superintendent
Supervisory experience including hiring, staff scheduling, and crew management
Be well versed in all aspects of day-to-day golf course setup and maintenance
Knowledge of the game and rules of golf
Possess or obtain a Kansas Pesticide License
Have experience in irrigation troubleshooting, repair and scheduling
Desire to further your career with the ultimate goal of obtaining a Superintendent position
An eye for detail and willingness to put in the hours and effort necessary to continue to improve the golf course and maintenance operations

Shadow Ridge Country Club is looking for a “working” Superintendent with Midwest ties and experience maintaining bentgrass in our Climate Zone to establish and maintain superior course conditions for the entirety of the golf season. Head Superintendent experience is preferred but not required. The ideal candidate must be hands on, hard working and have an eye for detail. The scope of responsibility for this position includes managing and maintaining the golf course, practice facilities, native areas, clubhouse grounds and landscaping, open spaces and the equipment used to maintain these areas. This position is also responsible for the development and implementation of all golf course maintenance programs and budgets as well as recruiting, hiring and thoroughly training personnel.
Establish and maintain firm, fast bent grass putting surfaces and greens surrounds
Establish and maintain well-conditioned tees and fairways
Establish tightly maintained bluegrass rough at less than 3 inches
Establish and maintain native grass areas that border course
Maintain recent bunker design improvements and new bunker sand
Maintain quality practice facility conditions throughout season with an emphasis on driving range tees
Oversee shoulder season aerification and preventative applications
Understanding of and willingness to master our irrigation system
Ability to oversee quality irrigation repairs in house
Eye for detail and ability to complete small projects from start to finish
An understanding of the game of golf as it translates to the playability of the course
Ability to establish and work within a course maintenance department budget
Select, purchase and prepare proper fertilizers and chemicals for course application
Maintain a pristine, organized maintenance facility along with clean, well maintained equipment
Keep accurate records and detailed logs of practices, chemical applications and other pertinent information
Establishes short and long-range maintenance and improvement plans for the golf course
Maintain course water features
Implement and enforce comprehensive safety programs for employees, members, and guests on course in compliance with local, state and federal laws
Communicate as necessary with Ownership, General Manager and Director of Golf to discuss conditions of facilities, maintenance plans, scheduled events and the number of rounds played
Conducts other appropriate tasks assigned by the General Manager
Attend staff and management meetings
Off season equipment maintenance and snow removal
Bachelor’s Degree in Turfgrass Management
Member of the Golf Course Superintendent Association of America (GCSAA)
Holds a chemical applicator’s license
Head Superintendent Experience
Previous work as an assistant to an experienced Golf Course Superintendent.
Regularly exposed to “hands on” physical work in Midwest weather conditions
Must be able to physically operate a variety of course maintenance equipment
Able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position alongside course maintenance team.
